I knit this up last week and it looks wonderful. I'm a tight knitter and used #7 needles. I love the way it looks and plan on making a bunch of these as thank you gifts for my deaf dd's teachers and friends. In fact, I liked it so much, I'm getting the whole alphabet. Thank you for sharing this with us! :)

Hello Amy-Lynne
I love the pattern for Savannah's blanket. I would like to know what brand and weight of acrylic yarn that you used. It only says acrylic yarn on the pattern.
Thank you,

Just so happens that my adult daughter is deaf. She'll be so impressed when I send her this and she opens the package - in purple, of course. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful pattern.

Hi! Great pattern! :) I had some trouble with the first one I made...didn't realize the size of needles would make a difference....

as I'm starting my second one...I am just noticing that the pattern pretty much lists odd numbered rows 7,9,11,13 etc....

am i missing something as a beginer knitter? or do the rows count as two?

thanks for your help!

amy-lynne......... said...

the even rows 2468&0 you knit the whole row... the pattern rows are 1357&9... hope this helps ya.

what is the finished measurement of your ILY dishcloth. I am knitting it, and Im half way and it measure already 6 inches. I think I did something wrong. HELP!!!

amy-lynne......... said...

on size US6 needles it came to be 7" x 7"... on US8 it came to be 9" x 9"... if you are a loose knitter you could try and go down 1 or 2 sizes in needles... other than that i have no clue as to why it is being so big for you... wish i was more help for you

Judy said...

Ok thanks Amy. I did use a size 6 needle for this dishcloth, just love those bamboo needles btw.
I think I may take it apart and start over. I know I have a size 4 needle but no 5's.
Also, Ive been trying to do the knit rows using the continental type knitting, which Im new at so this may be making it a looser stitch than the other way, because I just found out I have carpal tunnel in each wrist. egads.
Im hoping they do surgery on at least my right wrist, but I had to get a cortisone shot in it to start this process which i got yesterday. thanks.. I will go back tothe drawing board. I am late deafened,so we use the ILY sign here at home still even tho I was implanted with a cochlear implant 12 yrs ago.
sorry to be so chatty... and thanks again for your reply....hugsss... JUDY.

amy-lynne......... said...

no problem... changing from one technique to another can cause the loose stitches... i have always been hard of hearing and deaf in right ear in adulthood... don't over-do it with carpal tunnel... i am here if you need anything else... or you can private message me at
thanks again and keep me informed on how it goes with using the smaller needles

Is the sign used in I Love You blanket also the sign used in Hawaii? I just surfed on to your site and want to compliment you for such awesome work in making your designs! Wish I had a graph to follow to change colors of yarn when making "The Tongue"! Would make a pillow...

amy-lynne......... said...

hey Anonymous,
i have never been asked that about Hawaii... i have absolutely no clue, wish i could help you out there.... i don't know what site you got the tongue pattern from but that one should have the chart attached to it at the top... if you send me a e-mail to frogiez01@yahoo.com (put the pattern your doing in the subject line so i don't miss it) i will send you the chart... all of my stuff is one color so the best i can do is send you the chart i made for it and you can take it from there... hope this helps... have a great day... amy-lynne

anne.yount: the "hang loose" sign in Hawaii is the same handshape used for the letter Y in the ASL alphabet. The ILY has also the index finger extended to show all 3 letters in one handshape.

I used your pattern as inspiration to make the I love you sign in Tunisian crochet. your pattern was easy to read and converted very nicely. I may make a couple changes to give it a bit more definition next go round.
